Description

Look no further for a large and impressive upright Begonia for your garden. 'Big' develops jumbo plants with upright flowers on strong, arching stems - it's so vigorous that full and fantastic displays will not be hard to produce!

Plant them as feature plants in your borders or large patio pots - you won't have to wait long for the king size rose and red flowers to appear and they just keep on growing all the way through to autumn. The lovely glossy leaves range in colour from bright green to dusky bronze, just adding to the appeal of this fantastic plant.

Begonia 'Big' is not fussy and will happily thrive in more-or-less any part of the garden, from sunny spots to deep shade and is very easy to grow.

Supplied as 12 Plug Plants, ready to grow on before planting out.

Top Tips
  • You can remove the single female flowers to encourage more of the large double male flowers to be produced if you wish - although we like to leave them on for a fuller display.
  • Deadhead faded blooms to extend the flowering period.
Care Information

Planting Advice for your Begonia:

  • Begonia tubers will start into growth from February onwards. The easiest way is to put them into shallow tray with a good quality compost which has been moistened.
  • Plant the tubers with the domed side downwards and the hollow uppermost. Shoots will start to emerge depending on temperature. We recommend that you start them off in a warm room.
  • As soon as the shoots of the tubers are about 2cm long pot them up in 15cm pots. As soon as the roots reach the sides of the pot, they're ready to go into containers. Alternatively, you can plant the tubers straight into baskets and tubs where they are to flower.
  • When all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise Begonia plants to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days. Choose a sunny or semi shaded position that is protected from strong winds - a cold frame is ideal.
  • Grow on in full sun or partial shaded areas. The sunnier the site, the more vibrant the colours will be.

Aftercare Advice for Begonias:

  • For best results keep plants well-watered, and feed once every two weeks with a high potassium feed while in flower, and deadhead regularly to encourage further flowers.
  • Water regularly during the summer - Begonias thrive in moist soil. Take care not to over-water, as this will cause new begonia flower buds to drop.
  • Deadhead the single female flowers to encourage more of the large double male flowers to be produced and to extend the flowering period.
Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
