Hawthorn are beautiful flowering hedges that bring many fascinating features to the garden, including sharp thorns, green leaves, white blossom, and red fruits.
Commonly known as Quickthorn or Mayflower, these hardy and deciduous hedges look impressive from spring with green leaves and clusters of dainty white aromatic flowers that delight the senses without overwhelming other natural perfumes.
The thorny branches and dense nature of these hedges combine to form a barrier that softens unwanted noise and wind. When autumn rolls around, the flowers develop into dark red berries, known as haws.
A welcome boost to garden wildlife, the red fruits draw the attention of birds, while the foliage is an excellent nesting space. More than 100 types of insects, including butterflies and bees, can be seen benefitting from these hedges in spring.
These hedges are quick to grow, at a rate of 40-60cm per year, and will happily thrive in most soil types and garden locations, aside from wet or fully shaded conditions. This variety will even stand tall in particularly windy or coastal weather.
Don’t forget to use one of our handy bamboo cane and spiral guard sets when planting a bare root hedge. The cane will keep the bare root upright as it grows, while the spiral guard will protect the base of the plant from wildlife to achieve as thick a hedge as possible.
Supplied as 50 bare root hedges, 40-60cm tall, ready for planting.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.
Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.
