Vigorous plants with big, beautiful and open flowers in such an appealing shade of pink. The blooms of these Lavatera, also known as Mallows, emerge on long stems, to add a dramatic punch of colour to any garden display.
Incredibly attractive to bees and a host of other pollinating insects, so if you want to do your bit to help wildlife, then planting Lavatera in your garden is a great first step! ‘Barnsley Baby’ is a fabulous dwarf variety of the classic cottage garden favourite, bred to be considerably smaller than full-sized relatives.
Naturally compact in form, but the flowers are just as large and, rather incredibly, grow even more abundantly than others. Candyfloss pink strings of flowers open in succession from the bottom to the top of the stems, starting in July and concluding in October, so these beautiful shrubs are constantly coated in buds and freshly opened flowers, giving the look of extravagant flower arrangements.
Perfect for pots, only reaching a third of the size of most Lavatera, thriving in sunny spots where they can flower their little hearts out in the later days of summer, even when most other summer flowering plants are starting to slow down.
Incredibly easy to grow and look after, these just need plenty of water and a monthly feed, followed by hard cutting back in spring to encourage bushy new growth that will look gorgeous even before show-stopping flower stems begin to appear, teasing you as the buds swell and begin to burst open.
Supplied as a set of six established plants in 9cm pots, ready to plant, growing to a height and spread of 75cm.
Mallows can be slow to show signs of life in early spring, so you will need to be more patient than normal before they return to bud. Don't worry, as they are late risers!
