Description

A rare and incredibly beautiful tree, Acer ‘Taylor’ captivates all who see it with wonderful foliage colour that changes through the year.

Known as one of the prettiest compact Acers, despite not displaying brash or vibrant colours like many of its relatives, instead taking a much softer approach with subtle, yet no less stunning, shades. Fresh salmon pink foliage emerges in spring, covering the tree in a peachy glow. As they mature through summer, the leaves become variegated with green edged in cream, changing the look of the whole plant. As autumn arrives, the cream margins fade away leaving the foliage entirely lime green before they fall, again giving the tree a whole new look.

Slow growing, this is a superb specimen tree when grown in a big, contemporary patio pot and it’s also perfectly happy as a centrepiece in borders. Thriving in light shade, it’ll also do well in a sunny location, a truly impressive tree for any garden.

Plus, an Acer makes for an exceptional gift plant, and we have even done all the wrapping for you! The plant will arrive at your door intricately wrapped in a brown hessian bag and tied with a green fabric bow, ready to gift.

Supplied as an established gift wrapped plant in a 3L pot, ready to plant or gift.

Top Tips
  • Leaf colour is best in partial shade, although full sun will be tolerated.
Care Information

Planting Advice for your Acer

  • If your soil is slightly acidic, then you have the perfect conditions to grow Japanese maples - however do not worry if you have not as most can be grown in other soils as long as they are not wet, dry or very alkaline.
  • If growing in a pot, use a 50/50 mix of ericaceous and multipurpose compost if you can - although again don't worry overly about this.
  • If planting in the garden, prepare a wide hole and loosen the soil with a fork, incorporating organic matter as needed to improve moisture retention and condition.
  • Plant your Acer so that the top of the root ball is just slightly below ground level.
  • Fill the planting hole with soil and heel well in. Water well.

Aftercare advice

  • Leaf colour is best in partial shade, although full sun can be tolerated as long as the plant is well watered.
  • Avoid exposed places as leaves can suffer with windburn (scorch), especially if the plant is dry.
  • Allow your Japanese Maple to get used to a whole day in the sun by starting it off in the shade, then standing it in its final sunny spot (in pot or in the garden soil) for one hour longer every day for a week.
  • Water regularly and deeply.
  • Feed with our specialist Acer feed.
  • Mulch every couple of years with well-rotted garden compost or well-rotted manure or leaf mould.

Pruning advice for your Acer

  • Acers generally do not need pruning, just remove any branches that are dead or damaged.
Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
