Description

Brighten up your garden in the dreary winter months with this fabulous evergreen, winter flowering Clematis 'Freckles'. Its dainty nodding blooms make an appearance when the garden can be at its bleakest and are an uplifting and cheery sight indeed!

Easy to care for and needs no pruning so can be planted anywhere where the sun reaches - even in the most inaccessible spots.

Clematis Cirrhosa 'Freckles' is a vigorous evergreen climber with attractive, 3-lobed, dark green leaves that shine with a bronze glow through the winter. The pale-yellow nodding flowers are heavily speckled with maroon and are produced from late autumn right through to spring and are followed with attractive, silky seed heads.

Fully deserving its coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, you can be sure that this is a proven garden performer, guaranteed to be suitable for UK gardeners at every level of experience. You can therefore plant this in the garden with confidence, for stunning displays for many years to come.

Supplied as an established plant in a 7cm pot, ready for immediate planting.

Top Tips

Plant with the crown of the plant 5-8cm deep to encourage new shoots to grow from below ground level. Clematis prefer to have their roots cool, so try and plant so that the roots are shaded. If you are planting in a sunny position, place some pieces of slate or flat stones on the soil after planting or use groundcover plants to keep the roots out of the heat.

Care Information

Planting Advice for Clematis 'Freckles':

  • If planting by a wall or fence - the hole should be dug approx. 12in (30cm) away from its base.
  • If planting by a tree - plant about 2 feet (60cm) away from the trunk leaning the cane of the clematis towards the support.
  • Dig a planting hole 3 x wider than the roots of the shrub you're planting and mix some well-rotted compost or manure with the soil from the hole and use this to re-fill once the clematis is in place.
  • Before planting soak container-grown shrubs thoroughly and allow to drain.
  • Remove the plant from its pot and tease out a few of the roots and sprinkle with Mycorrhizal fungi to help plants establish quicker.
  • Plant with the crown of the plant 5-8cm deep to encourage new shoots to grow from below ground level.
  • Refill the hole with the earth removed (backfilling) and firm in the soil, avoiding the root ball.
  • Water well

Aftercare Advice for Clematis 'Freckles':

  • Feed in spring with a general-purpose feed, avoiding the stems. Mulch immediately afterwards with organic matter such as well-rotted manure, lea mould or garden compost.
  • Water regularly during periods of dry weather in the first few seasons after planting, especially for container plants.
  • Clematis in pots should be given a liquid feed through the summer and early autumn.

Pruning Advice for Clematis cirrhosa:

  • No regular pruning is required, just remove any dead, damaged or diseases stems before cutting back to a pair of buds to maintain shape. Prune immediately after flowering in mid- to late spring when the danger of frost has passed.

Delivery Information

Please allow us 3-5 working days to dispatch your order. Pre-ordered items will be sent as soon as possible after the date quoted and we'll generally ship your entire order with your pre-ordered items. When your order is dispatched, we'll send you another email with details of how to track it.

Most orders are sent on a fully-tracked courier service with Yodel. To avoid perishable items being stuck at depots and deteriorating, no signature is required, and our courier is asked to leave your order in a safe place on your property.

We'll send a tracking link when we dispatch your order, so you know when its due to arrive. Please note, once delivered we cannot be held responsible for loss or theft from your property. If you have any specific delivery instructions, please let us know - there's an option to enter a short message for the courier at the checkout.

Smaller, lighter, single-item orders may be sent through the post with Royal Mail - in which case no tracking is available.

Our experienced nursery team will always send your plants nursery fresh in the perfect condition to thrive when you plant them, so although most plants are very tough and will not be affected by all but the most extreme frosts or heatwaves, we avoid dispatching the most perishable plants if extreme weather is forecast, or over Bank Holiday weekends.

Please note, we cannot guarantee delivery on a certain day or time. Delivery to outlying postcode areas may take 1-2 days longer, dependent on your location.
