Product Information

This is your opportunity to get your hands on a hardy and evergreen palm tree, already established and ready to impress in your garden! Trachycarpus Fortunei boasts deep green, fan-shaped leaves that stretch long shadows across lawns in maturity.

Also known as a Chusan Palm or Windmill Palm, this exotic beauty forms an exceptional centrepiece wherever it is planted, bringing an exciting feel of the tropics to the garden.

While being perfectly suitable for planting directly into the ground in a warm and sunny spot, Trachycarpus is also able to thrive in a large patio pot, owing to a compact and slow-growing nature. This allows any gardener to enjoy it, regardless of space available.

Fully deserving its coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, you can be sure this is a proven garden performer, guaranteed to be suitable for UK gardeners at every level of experience. You can therefore plant this in the garden with confidence, for stunning displays for many years to come.

Supplied as an established potted plant, roughly 130-140cm tall, including the 17L nursery pot.

Top Tips

Simply cut off the leaves when they turn brown and over time, an upright, woody, fibrous trunk is formed.

Care Information

  • Grow in any well-drained, fertile soil in full sun or lightly dappled shade.
  • Needs protection from strong or cold drying winds and will need protection from hard winter frosts by wrapping the leaves.
  • If you live in an area prone to frost, you should consider growing Trachycarpus in a pot.
  • Use a soil-based compost, such as John Innes No 2, with extra grit added to improve stability of the post and help drainage.
  • Add controlled-release fertiliser granules to the pot or use a liquid feed every two week from mid-spring to late summer.
  • Check plants and repot every two years in spring so that the soil does not become exhausted and stale.
