Product Information

Bring a tropical feel to your garden with this big and established Cordyline. This idyllic statement plant is supplied to you at least 1.75m tall, ready to make instant impact in a bed, border, or large decorative pot. Place it by a door, gateway, or at the end of a path for an exotic focal point.

Attractive swirls of long, sword-like leaves fan out symmetrically from a central, slow-growing trunk; and being evergreen, it will look superb and healthy through the year, maintaining colour and structure. In summer, mature plants produce clusters of sweetly-scented, ivory-white blossom, followed by ornamental berries in autumn.

The bigger the plant grows, the hardier it becomes, even withstanding temperatures down to -7C, but we always recommend using frost-protection fleece or wrapping, or bringing container-grown plants into a garage, porch, or greenhouse during the coldest winters. Place in a sunny spot and it will thrive for years to come!

Supplied as an established plant, approx. 175-200cm tall, in a 35L pot, ready to plant.

Top Tips

  • Add mycorrhizal fungi to the roots when planting to help establish more quickly.

Care Information

  • Water plants freely during the growing season, and sparingly in winter.
  • Feed monthly with a balanced, liquid fertiliser from spring to late summer, and they will grow 10-15cm a year.
  • Topdress or pot up in spring.
  • Cut off any dead leaves at the bottom, and that is what forms the trunk.
  • Although frost hardy, young cordyline plants, and also coloured varieties, are more prone to cold damage. This can be prevented by tying up the foliage to reduce wind damage and prevent water collecting around growing points and causing rotting.
  • In areas prone to severe winters, wrap the trunk with layers of fleece and place a 15cm layer of mulch, such as bark, over the root area.
  • Move container-grown plants to a frost-free location, such as a greenhouse, during periods of cold or wet weather – temporary shelter in a shed or garage will do.
