Product Information

A shrub with so much to see! Colour-changing leaves across the year, dainty springtime flowers, and evergreen foliage for cross-season beauty.

Feel bowled over by the fresh spring foliage of this vigorous shrub, which erupts in a bright shade of scarlet red, contrasting to perfection against mature, deep green foliage. The colour is really intense and unusual, especially so early in the year, and being evergreen, boasts year-round interest. The red shade holds firm across spring and summer, before evolving to dark green towards the end of the year.

'Red Robin' is often grown either as an ornamental shrub or a fast-growing, dense hedge. Clusters of small white flowers emerge in spring, sometimes followed by red fruit on this well-established 'Red Robin', which already stands at least 2m tall on arrival - ready to impress right away!

Fully deserving its coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, you can be sure this is a proven garden performer, guaranteed to be suitable for UK gardeners at every level of experience. You can therefore plant this in the garden with confidence, for stunning displays for many years to come.

A versatile shrub, ideal for use as hedging, screening, or as a backdrop for other colourful plants and flowers, yet easily manageable in smaller gardens with just an annual prune. Once planted and settled, this variety can grow up to 30cm each year.

Supplied as an established plant in a 35L pot, roughly 200-225cm tall, ready to plant.

Top Tips

This specimen plant can be pruned or clipped up to three times a year to encourage new red leaves to develop.

Care Information

  • Also known as the Christmas Berry, Photinia 'Red Robin' grows best in fertile, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade.
  • A sheltered position is best, as the new growth can be scorched by drying wind or late frosts. Regular watering can cut down the risk of scorching.
  • Really easy to care for, any pruning is minimal, and is usually just formative. Carried out before mid-summer, it allows new growth to harden off before winter.
