Product Information

Could there be a garden feature that better promotes a Mediterranean feel than a sprawling grape vine with delicious fruit? Now you can grow one for yourself, with ease! Thankfully, you do not need a Tuscan Garden bathing in sunshine to grow grapes, as this variety produces plentiful crops, year after year, to reliably fill your fruit bowl.

Whether picking bunches and serving them fresh from vine to table, or transforming them into a sweet wine, once you taste your home-grown delights, you won’t want to go back to store-bought grapes ever again. This woody plant climbs with ease, cloaked in large, multi-lobed leaves from spring to autumn, with dainty green summertime flowers.

Moving into autumn, red seeded grapes are ready for picking, each bursting with a refreshing flavour and healthy goodness – you won’t feel guilty about enjoying these sweet treats! Prolific fruiting, incredibly winter hardy and very easy to grow. Decorative as well as bountiful, even looking wonderful trained across a pergola to provide natural summer shade.

Supplied as an established plant in a 30L pot, 100-125cm tall.

Top Tips

In the first couple of years, your vine should not be allowed to fruit so that it can strengthen its root system and produce better crops in the coming years.

Care Information

  • Before planting, select a site with full sun or at least morning sun - light shade in the afternoon is fine - and ensure that a support is in place for the grapevine to grow up.
  • Dig over your planting site thoroughly and incorporate some well rotted compost, removing all weeds.
  • For each vine, dig a planting hole 30cm deep and 30cm wide.
  • Fill with 4 inches of topsoil and set the vine into the hole slightly deeper than it grew in the nursery.
  • Cover the roots with 6 inches of soil and firm down well.
  • Fill with the remaining soil, but leave it loose.
  • Prune the top back to two or three buds and water in well.

Pruning Your Grapes:

  • Prune annually in late November-December and don’t be afraid to remove up to 90 per cent of the previous season’s growth - the more you prune, the more grapes you will grow.
  • In the first year, cut back all buds except for two or three. Then, select a couple of strong canes and cut back the rest.
  • Make sure the remaining canes are fastened to a support.
  • In the second year, prune back all canes and leave a couple of buds on each of the arms.
  • Remove flower clusters as they form.

General Care:

  • Do not feed in the first year and feed lightly in the second year of growth.
  • Mulch well in winter to retain moisture, and you may wish to use netting to keep birds away from the grapes as they grow.
