Product Information

An instant holiday feel in your garden! This evergreen palm produces exceptionally long fan-like foliage for a fresh, yet dramatic display. The perfect architectural palm for instant impact, delivered to you at least 175cm tall, ready to dress up a large, decorative pot.

This fast-growing evergreen, also known as Washingtonia robusta, boasts superb leaves, each stretching up to 1.5m long! In summer, a scattering of small white flowers can be seen dangling on the branching stems.

Witness beautiful shadows on the lawn or patio as the fan leaves gently dance on the breeze across the warm summer months. The slender trunk of the tall plant swells towards the base with age, topped with a huge outstretching head of leaves.

This is not a hardy plant, therefore will need winter protection. Keep it potted and in a warm spot on the patio, balcony, or terrace during summer, before bringing it indoors from autumn, such as into a conservatory.

Supplied as an established plant in a 17L pot, at 175-200cm tall, ready to plant.

Top Tips

  • Water well in spring and summer - despite their tropical looks!
  • In windy spots, provide shelter, as they large leaves can be damaged in high winds

Care Information

  • Slow-growing trees, palms are easy to grow and care for. Thriving in a sheltered site in full sun, with some shade from direct midday sun, they are best grown on the patio in large pots and brought under cover into a protected area for winter.
  • During the growing season, water moderately and feed with a balanced fertiliser once a month at half the strength of the packet guidance. Water sparingly in winter.
  • If the plant becomes pot-bound, pot on into a container 2.5cm larger when new growth starts in spring, using a compost with good drainage properties.
  • In years when repotting is not carried out, topdress by removing 5cm of the old surface compost from the top of the pot and replace it with fresh compost.
  • Pruning will only be needed to remove old fronds that hang below the horizontal level. Do not remove any that are growing upright, as this may slow the growth and reduce the palm's overall vigor.
  • Remember these palms have spines and sharp edges - use extreme caution when handling.
